The MADANI Government is prioritizing follow-up action on the Tabung Haji RCI report and stands ready to cooperate with the PAC, says Dr Zulkifli Hasan.
KUALA LUMPUR: The MADANI Government is prioritising follow-up action on the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), which will be addressed firmly and comprehensively.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the government was also prepared to cooperate with the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) regarding the RCI report if needed.
“However, the main focus at present is to ensure that follow-up action on the Tabung Haji RCI report is addressed firmly and comprehensively.
“This step is important to safeguard the trust of millions of depositors and protect the sanctity of Muslim assets,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Recently, there were calls for the PAC to establish a special investigative body to review the management and governance of TH from 2017 to date.
Zulkifli said the TH RCI comprised six distinguished figures appointed with the consent of the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, in July 2021.
He added that the combination of expertise in the judiciary, public administration, banking, Syariah and auditing ensured that the investigation and recommendations for action were carried out independently, professionally, fairly and with integrity, without any interference.
He said the investigation was also backed by the consent of the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong in 2021, as well as the firm decree by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, on Aug 8, who demanded that any wrongdoing be investigated exhaustively.
“The continued calls since 2019 from various quarters prove that the management of the people’s savings demands absolute transparency that cannot be compromised in any way,” he said.
Zulkifli said the MADANI Government pledged to carry out the trust with full responsibility and a deep sense of accountability to Allah SWT, while ensuring that every injustice was dealt with according to the law.
