THE government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the Bumiputera economic empowerment agenda remains relevant, inclusive and resilient as Malaysia navigates mounting domestic and global economic challenges.

Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said the ongoing effort to strengthen Bumiputera participation in the economy must be aligned with future economic needs, particularly in an increasingly complex global trade and investment environment.

He said the matter was among the key issues discussed at the Bumiputera Economic Council meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday.

“This meeting serves as an important platform to coordinate policies, strengthen implementation and assess the effectiveness of Bumiputera economic development initiatives at the national level,” Johari said in a post on Facebook.

“It also includes refining the country’s direction in the areas of trade and investment,” he added.

Johari said discussions also focused on strengthening Bumiputera participation in high-value sectors, including efforts to enhance the competitiveness of local enterprises.

He said this involved ensuring broader access to financing, markets and supply chain opportunities, in line with the government’s commitment to keeping the Bumiputera economic empowerment agenda relevant, inclusive and sustainable for the long term. - January 29, 2026
