Govt to supply frozen fish in flood areas: deputy DG

TUMPAT – The Malaysian Fisheries Development Board will supply frozen fish in areas at high risk of flooding, especially during the monsoon season.

Its Deputy Director-General (Development) Kusuadi Sallih said the board was currently setting up a natural disaster preparedness committee to ensure that fish supply will be always sufficient in flood-affected areas.

“We are also setting up fish collection centres in several states in preparation for this year’s monsoon season.

“In addition, we will get information from time to time from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) about the current situation of floods in the country,” he told reporters during the launch of the Pasir Pekan constituency-level Keluarga Malaysia Cheap Sale programme here today. 

MetMalaysia has forecast that the country will experience continuous heavy rain from mid-November that can cause major floods.

Separately, Kusuadi said as many as 22 constituencies in Kelantan had implemented the sale programme, with sales value reaching RM1.2 million and involving a total of 24,335 visitors.

“A majority of the constituencies in Kelantan have carried out the programme between one and three times.

“This clearly shows that we are always working hard and committed to ensure that food supply is always sufficient for the people,” he said. – Bernama, September 10, 2022
