SUPP says GPS can sweep all seats in Sarawak election as leaders stress unity ahead of crucial state polls
KUCHING: The Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) has predicted that the Opposition will fail to secure a single seat in the fast-approaching Sarawak State Election.
SUPP President Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian stated today that the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition is capable of handing the Opposition a “telur” (zero) result.
“We [GPS] shall give the DAP and the Opposition ‘telur’ in this coming State Election. Wipe the Opposition out of Sarawak. We, GPS, are going for total dominance,” Sim quipped during his address at the GPS Convention, held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching today.
Sim, who also serves as Deputy Premier, predicted that the Sarawak DAP would suffer a similar fate to its counterparts in Sabah.
“DAP in Sabah was decimated in the recent Sabah State Election. We will wipe out Sarawak DAP in the upcoming polls,” he added.
SUPP is a key component of the GPS state government, alongside Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
Meanwhile, PRS President Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai urged all GPS component parties to remain vigilant despite the optimistic outlook.
“Even if a single GPS component party loses one seat, it constitutes a loss for the entire coalition. Components must support one another with absolute unity and cooperation.
“Achieving total dominance of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly is possible,” Sikie said.
He emphasised that the primary strength of GPS lies in its ability to remain united while engaging with the rakyat to secure their mandate.
The Sarawak State Legislative Assembly currently comprises 82 seats, with the standing as follows: GPS ( 79 seats), DAP (2 seats) (Padungan and Pending) and Independent (1 seat) (Batu Lintang).
The current term of the State Assembly is set to expire on Dec 18 this year, necessitating an election in the final quarter of 2026.
