Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) plans to engage with its component parties before submitting proposals for redelineation to the Election Commission (EC). Sarawak Premier and GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg mentioned that the EC had notified the state government about possible revisions to the electoral boundaries. Speaking at Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin’s Chinese New Year open house, Abang Johari stated that GPS would submit its proposals in response to the EC's notification.

When asked about the number of constituencies involved in the redelineation exercise and whether Senadin was included, Abang Johari stated that he was unsure and that GPS would engage with the EC to discuss the proposals. He explained that the engagement process would include all GPS component parties, presenting proposals to the EC for review and discussion.

The last redelineation exercise in Sarawak took place in 2015. There are rumors that Senadin, with a current population estimated at over 200,000, could be one of the constituencies affected. In the last General Election, Senadin had 68,564 registered voters.

Abang Johari visited Miri for a two-day Chinese New Year visit, accompanied by his wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, federal Minister of Health Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Penguang Manggil, and Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration, and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala.

The visit to Miri was part of Abang Johari's efforts to connect with the community during the festive season. The presence of key government figures highlighted the importance of the occasion and demonstrated the government's commitment to engaging with the people.

During his visit, Abang Johari emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among Sarawakians, regardless of their background or political affiliation. He reiterated GPS's commitment to serving the people and ensuring that their voices are heard in matters concerning the state's development and future.

The engagement session with GPS component parties is crucial in ensuring that the redelineation exercise is conducted fairly and transparently. By involving all relevant parties in the process, GPS aims to address any concerns and ensure that the new electoral boundaries reflect the current demographics and needs of the state.

As Sarawak prepares for the upcoming redelineation exercise, all eyes will be on GPS and the EC to see how they handle this important process. The outcome of the redelineation exercise could have far-reaching implications for the state's political landscape, and it is essential that it is carried out with integrity and fairness to maintain the trust and confidence of the people.
