Have you noticed that recently, cost of e-hailing services like Grab has been frequently rising, especially during peak hours where prices surge significantly? E-hailing services used to be an affordable and convenient way to travel but has now become a luxury for some. Now that prices surge, citizens have started looking for cheaper alternatives to get to their destination, either through public transport like buses, trains like MRT & LRT, or even carpooling.
However, certain people really think out of the box, where an unexpected solution popped up online, showing that people starting turning to Lalamove instead! If you do not know what Lalamove does, they're basically delivery service originally designed to transport goods like instant parcel deliveries or even furniture moving, not people.
According to a netizen Liong on Facebook, a creative and cost-concious Malaysian ordered on Lalamove, requesting him to pick them up and drop them off at their destinations, just like a regular e-hailing service, just because Lalamove's delivery charges are often cheaper than Grab’s passenger fares, especially for short distances. Seeing it amazes Liong, it he was clearly confused and surprised, just as though he is saying in his mind that , “Hello, I’m Lalamove, not Grab.”
Interestingly, this isn't the first time Malaysians use Lalamove as e-hailing. Another netizen named Tian Yang faced the same issue, uploading a screenshot of his order showing a similar situation. This doesn't only happen to Malaysians, but also happened in Singapore. A netizen shared in the comments that some Singaporeans often take advantage by ordering Lalamove to pick up their luggage, and at the same time give them a ride just because it's “on the way”!
Well, it was quite a controversial topic as some felt that it's a creative way, jokingly saying that “What's wrong with carrying people? People can walk on their own, but cargo still needs to be carried!”, “Lalamove has found a new business opportunity, and they even have to thank this user”!
