SULTANAH of Terengganu, Her Majesty Sultanah Nur Zahirah, has urged Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) graduates not to let the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) overpower moral values, ethics and humanity.
Delivering her royal address as UniSZA’s Chancellor at the university’s 17th Convocation Ceremony held at Dewan Al-Muktafi Billah Shah, Gong Badak Campus, today, Sultanah Nur Zahirah said that while AI continues to dominate the economy, healthcare, education and public administration, humanity must remain in control of technology.
“In this modern era filled with technological explosions, humans must be the ones to guide and control the use of AI so that it does not deviate from the path of humanity. Yet, the question remains — are humans controlling technology with values, manners and morality?” she said.
Her Majesty emphasised that graduates must harness technology not only for progress and convenience but for the benefit of all humankind.
“As part of the Khairul Ummah, UniSZA graduates must view AI as a tool that elevates human dignity,” she said, adding that the university’s integration of revealed (naqli) and rational (aqli) knowledge must continue to serve as the foundation to ensure that technological advancement remains rooted in faith and ethics.
Sultanah Nur Zahirah also called on graduates to become a generation that combines technological intelligence with moral wisdom, stands for global justice with courage, and builds social development grounded in strong values.
During the ceremony, Her Majesty congratulated recipients of the Honorary Doctorate in Sports Science, Datuk Marina Chin @ Chin Leng Sim, and Professor Emeritus in Risk Management, Dr Ahmad Shukri Yazid.
