
RANAU: A 60-year-old grandmother and her four-year-old granddaughter were burnt to death in a house fire at a village, here, Thursday night.
Ranau Fire and Rescue Chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said the bodies of Jafflan Sigal, 60, and her granddaughter, identified as Rycca Dcarllavyraquella Lee, were found in the bedroom after the fire was extinguished.
Another family member who was also in the house managed to escape in the 10.53pm incident in Kampung Matan.
Ridwan said a team of firefighters with machinery and the Emergency Service Support Unit (EMRS) was deployed to the scene.

Read more He said the fire brigade extinguished the fire using two fountains, two streams and water sources from the machinery tanks and nearby fire hydrants.
He added that the bodies of the two victims were handed over to the police for further action.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
Meanwhile, in Kota Kinabalu, four houses, a Toyota Hilux and a Perodua Axia suffered damages in a fire at Kg Sembulan Tengah, near Sutera Avenue, early Friday.
Firefighters were deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 1.05am.

Nobody was reported injured in the blaze that was brought under control at 1.45am. The operation ended at 4.30am.
“I was preparing to go to bed when our neighbours shouted fire,” said Yasmin, 32.
Yasmin, who works at a nearby coffeeshop, said she has been renting a room in one of the houses for the past eight months.
She said there were many rooms in the damaged houses that were rented out.
