As of 7 am today, the tally of arrests in connection to the escape of illegal immigrants from the Bidor Temporary Immigration Depot last Thursday has reached 41, with the successful recapture of two more individuals. The Perak police chief, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, officially confirmed this development, revealing that the two escapees were apprehended early this morning.

These individuals, like the others detained, were Rohingya escapees. Following their recapture, they have been transported to the Tapah district police headquarters for further legal proceedings. The incident unfolded on February 1 when a total of 131 illegal immigrants managed to escape from the men's block of the temporary detention depot. This group comprised 115 Rohingya, 15 Myanmar nationals, and one Bangladeshi.

Tragically, amidst the chaos and escape, one detainee lost their life in a road accident that occurred at KM 335 of the North-South Expressway. The authorities have been actively working to address the situation and bring those responsible to justice.

The ongoing efforts to recapture escaped individuals highlight the challenges faced by immigration authorities in maintaining the security and order of detention facilities. This incident underscores the importance of implementing robust security measures to prevent such escapes and ensuring the safety of both detainees and the general public.

In response to the incident, law enforcement agencies are likely to review and enhance security protocols at immigration depots to prevent future escapes. Additionally, there may be a renewed focus on addressing the root causes of such incidents, such as overcrowding and tensions within the detainee population.

The incident not only raises concerns about the security of immigration facilities but also emphasizes the broader issue of illegal immigration. Authorities may need to collaborate across borders to address the complex challenges associated with managing and controlling the movement of undocumented individuals.

As investigations continue and legal actions are taken against those involved, it remains crucial for authorities to adopt comprehensive strategies that address the various facets of illegal immigration, from detention facility security to addressing the root causes that drive individuals to attempt escape.
