Greater Manchester mayoral election to go to second count

• Labour’s Bev Craig and Reform UK’s Sian Astley are in a second count in the vote to become Greater Manchester mayor after no candidate won over 50 per cent of first-choice votes.
• The supplementary vote (SV) system redistributes second-preference votes from eliminated candidates to the top two.
• The count, which began at 9:30am, is expected to declare Andy Burnham’s successor this afternoon.
• The contest was triggered by Mr Burnham’s election as MP for Makerfield last month, a move positioning him for a Labour Party leadership bid.
• Of over two million eligible voters, only one in four cast a ballot – the lowest turnout in the four Greater Manchester mayoral races.
