Grieving mother thanks nation for outpouring of support after teenage daughter’s tragic death

THE mother of a 16-year-old girl who was killed in a shocking stabbing incident at a school in Bandar Utama has extended her deepest thanks to the public, officials, and communities across Malaysia for their overwhelming support and condolences following her daughter’s funeral.

In a statement, Wong Lee Ping said the outpouring of love and concern had brought light to her family during their darkest hours.

“We are truly touched and humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and your presence during this painful time. Your compassion has been a light in our darkest days,” she said.

Wong expressed profound appreciation to His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, and Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong, Raja Zarith Sofiah, as well as Members of Parliament, school representatives, teachers, students, relatives, and friends from all communities — Malay, Chinese, Indian and others — for their prayers, kind words, and presence.

“If there are any names we have overlooked, please know that your kindness is still deeply appreciated. Every act, no matter how big or small, will forever be remembered by our family.

“Your support gives us strength, your presence brings us comfort, and your prayers help us endure,” she added.

Hundreds gathered yesterday at the Nirvana crematorium in Shah Alam to bid farewell to the teenager. As part of the ceremony, blue and white balloons — the victim’s favourite colours — were released into the sky in a moving tribute.

The police have confirmed that the suspect, a 14-year-old male student, will remain in remand for an additional seven days to assist with investigations.

Petaling Jaya district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat, said the investigation papers would be submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.

The tragic incident occurred on 14 October in the girls’ restroom of the school. The suspect, apprehended the same day, is believed to have used two sharp weapons, which were recovered by police.

The case has garnered national attention, particularly after Wong revealed at a press conference last week that her daughter had been stabbed more than 200 times. - October 21, 2025
