  • Bereaved parents are urging MPs to support an immediate ban on social media for under-16s, as Parliament prepares to debate the issue for the first time.
  • MPs will consider a Lords-backed amendment proposing a default block for young people within 12 months of the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill becoming law.
  • The government, however, suggests replacing this with broader powers, such as social media curfews, following a consultation launched last week.
  • Twenty-three parents, whose children died due to social media, are calling on MPs to reject the government's consultation and back the immediate ban to prevent further delays.
  • Esther Ghey, mother of murdered teenager Brianna Ghey, emphasised the urgent need for action, stating that children are being exploited and harmed, and further delay is unacceptable.
