At most public places in Malaysia, dogs are usually banned from being brought into the premise due to local sensitivities and the potential mess they leave behind if not closely supervised.
A group of customers recently broke this societal norm by bringing their pet dogs to a popular mamak stall in Subang Jaya, prompting a wave of backlash.
Brought dogs into mamak stall
In a viral Threads post, it showed a couple seated at one table looking on as their pet dog greeted another dog which belonged to another woman, who sat at a separate table just a stone’s throw away.
From the clip, it cannot be determined whether the group consisted of local or mainland Chinese customers.
In the caption, the OP, who filmed the incident from where she was seated, slammed the trio for disrespecting local sensitivities and lamented that the mamak stall had to perform samak, an Islamic cleansing procedure.
She also disclosed that the mamak stall was located in front of Uptown Kota Damansara.
Allegedly refused to leave
Unsurprisingly, the group’s actions drew a lot of criticism from netizens, who bashed them for their lack of consideration and ignorance.
One netizen accused the mamak stall of turning a blind eye to such incidents as they were afraid of losing money if they barred customers from bringing their pet dogs along.
When one asked why no one stepped forward to tell the group off, the OP revealed that she didn’t do so as she was afraid it would lead to a fight.
She also claimed that Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) personnel later approached the group and told them to leave, but they allegedly refused to budge and “pretended like nothing happened”.
It wasn’t until they noticed more customers were throwing angry looks their way did they finally leave, albeit reluctantly.
