RANAU: The P179 Ranau Parliamentary 15th General Election kicked off at about 9.00am on Saturday with a five-cornered fight including an intra-pact clash of two candidates.
The first candidate to file in for nomination was from Pakatan Harapan (PH), Taufik Hj Dahlan, followed by Parti Warisan Sabah's (Warisan) Markos Situn.
The third was a young candidate, Azizul Julirin, representing Pejuang.
The fourth candidate, who turned out to be a suprise, was former Ranau MP, Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin from Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS), which is under the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.
The fifth candidate was incumbent MP Datuk Jonathan Yasin representing the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition.
In Sabah, GRS and BN divided the 25 total election seats between them, but this did not stop Ewon from going against the pact and having a go on his own.
Nominations were closed at 10am.
