A GOVERNMENT that does not have the mandate of the people will not last long and this is what happened to Parti Warisan, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Chairman said Warisan managed to form the Government because there were people’s representatives who jumped, causing the then Barisan Nasional (BN) government to fall despite being sworn in.
“After about two years in power, the State Election (PRN) was held because Shafie Apdal had to dissolve the government due to loss of support. This is the difference between the party that got the mandate after the people’s representatives jumped and the party that got the people’s mandate like GRS-BN.
“The Warisan government ruled not because of the people’s mandate but because there were people’s representatives, especially Upko, who jumped to Warisan.
“The situation caused the BN government to fall. God is just and a government that does not get a mandate, cannot last long. Elected people’s representatives who supported Warisan came out en masse to the point that the PRN had to be held,” he said at a meet-the-people session at Sri Wawasan Hall, in Kg Pimping, Membakut, on Nov 10.
Also present were Sabah BN Chairman, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin who is also the Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah; BN candidate in Kimanis Datuk Mohamad Alamin; Minister of Special Tasks and Coordination who is also Membakut Assemblyman Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif.
Hajiji said that the agreement and cooperation between GRS and BN in the PRN was finally successful and got the people’s mandate to form the State Government.
“Therefore, the success of the GRS-BN consensus at the state level in the 16th State Election (PRN16) will be translated into this 15th General Election (GE15).
“The general election this time is important to determine the government at the Federal level. Tonight’s ceremony proves that GRS and BN continue to be together in one struggle.
“So, now we are united to face the GE15. We want strong political stability. We have experienced various political upheavals in these five years,” he said.
In the same event, Hajiji reminded the people of this state not to be easily influenced by the words and promises of the opposition in this GE15, but to continue to give unwavering support to the BN candidate for the Kimanis parliamentary seat.
“It is certain that if the GRS-BN candidate in Kimanis wins this GE15, he (Mohamad) will definitely be appointed as deputy minister or full minister. Leaders like this should be chosen instead of those who only talk more and make promises.
“GRS will continue to support BN. We (GRS) do not aspire to be Prime Minister like other parties. Recently Datuk Azis Jaman (Warisan candidate in Sepanggar) said why only the position of DPM (Deputy Prime Minister) and not PM (Prime Minister). How to be PM, when even in Sabah they lost?
“Two years of being the state government, there was no direction but slander here and there. What are they proud of? They are proud to have established a cooking oil company but never made a profit, this is Warisan.
“Finally, the GRS-BN Government today is also trying to ensure that cooking oil is profitable. In fact, we managed to produce another cooking oil known as ‘Sayang’,” he said.
Saying it is rare to talk about politics in any mass media, Hajiji said this GE season many things need to be shared with the people, especially regarding the achievements made by the state government.
“I have to talk about what the State Government has done, is doing and will do, as well as our achievements during the two years of government to be able to collect state revenue of RM5.449 billion last year. An unprecedented success.
“Even though we faced the Covid-19 pandemic at the beginning of the government, it did not stop the GRS-BN Government from continuing to make strides and organising a strategy to restore the economy. We organise the government as best we can. Therefore, this year we are expected to collect even more, which is RM6 billion.
“Unlike the opposition, Datuk Shafie (Datuk Shafie Apdal) when governed the State in the past, Sabah was not well managed,” he said, urging the people not to believe too much in Warisan’s words and promises.
At the ceremony, Hajiji also announced that the government has approved making the Membakut sub-district a full district.
