Guan Eng calls for action over KKDW overspending

Kuala Lumpur: DAP's Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng (pic) has called for action against Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and the Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKDW) over expenditure which he said exceeded approved allocations from 2023 to 2025.

Citing figures previously disclosed by the Finance Ministry, Lim said KKDW spent RM1.8 billion against an allocation of RM1.1 billion in 2023, RM2 billion against RM1.3 billion in 2024 and RM2.3 billion against RM1.6 billion in 2025.

"This amounted to RM2.1 billion in expenditure above the approved allocations over the three years and argued that action was necessary to prevent similar occurrences in other ministries," he said in a statement on Facebook today.

Lim also questioned which contractors benefited from KKDW contracts during the period and whether they were selected according to regulations through a transparent and accountable process.

He said Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, should provide a full explanation on the expenditure, contending that as Deputy Prime Minister he should set an example of prudent financial management.
