A key prosecution witness in the ongoing corruption case involving Lim Guan Eng was reportedly assaulted in a brazen home invasion near Petaling Jaya, raising concerns about witness intimidation just weeks before the trial resumes.
According to sources familiar with the matter, a group of ten unidentified individuals allegedly forced entry into the victim’s residence after subduing two security guards stationed at the property. The intruders are said to have physically attacked the witness, causing multiple injuries to his face and hand.
One of the assailants allegedly issued a threatening remark during the assault, warning the victim to remain home and avoid trying to be a hero. This has prompted speculation that the attack may be an attempt to interfere with the judicial process ahead of critical testimonies.
Authorities in Petaling Jaya have acknowledged the incident, with district police chief ACP Shahrulnizam Ja’afar confirming that an official statement would be released soon. The motive and identities of the attackers remain under investigation as police work to determine if the assault is connected to the high-profile corruption trial.
The prosecution has also taken notice of the attack. Lead Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Wan Shahruddin Wan Ladin reportedly stated that the matter would be formally raised when court proceedings resume on August 19, signaling the seriousness with which authorities are treating the development.
The trial involves charges against Lim Guan Eng, who serves as the Democratic Action Party (DAP) adviser. He is currently facing multiple corruption charges tied to the Penang Undersea Tunnel project. Among the allegations, Lim is accused of soliciting a 10 percent share of future profits from the director of Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd, as well as receiving RM3.3 million in bribes and participating in questionable land transactions involving two state-owned plots.
The attack on a prosecution witness adds a new layer of tension to an already politically sensitive trial, prompting calls for enhanced security measures and heightened scrutiny as the legal process unfolds.
