Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat today said he would not use air travel and would prioritise trains and buses until the fuel crisis in the country improves.
He called upon citizens to contribute to making India a developed nation by prioritising the purchase of indigenous products to strengthen the economy.
He was interacting with media persons at the Kurukshetra railway station on Thursday.
The Governor also appealed to citizens to heed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to minimise oil consumption. Setting a personal example of fuel conservation, the Governor, who travelled by train from Gujarat to Kurukshetra, proceeded to Gurukul Kurukshetra on a bicycle. He was welcomed at various points by residents of the city. Nearly 200 cyclists participated in the cycling event.
The Gujarat Governor said that, in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for fuel conservation, he has decided not to use planes and helicopters for travelling until normalcy is restored in the country. Furthermore, his official convoy has been restricted to a maximum of three vehicles. He appealed to students to take the Prime Minister’s message regarding fuel conservation to every household. Through collective effort, the nation can tide over the challenges, he said.
Acharya Devvrat further said that letters have been sent to all universities in Gujarat, requesting them to observe one vehicle-free day per week. On this designated day, travel within university premises should be undertaken using public transport, bicycles, or electric vehicles.
He emphasised that citizens should extend their full cooperation to this initiative and strive to maximise fuel savings until the oil supply situation in the country returns to normalcy.
