Chemist shops across the district will remain closed on May 20 to protest the online sale of medicines.
The protest is being lodged on a call of the All-India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD) and the State Chemists and Druggists Association (SCDA).
A memorandum in this regard has been submitted by Chemist Association, Gurdaspur, district president Satish Kapoor to zonal licensing authority representative Karan Sachdeva.
The memorandum said practices such as online sale of medicines without any clear legal provisions, fake e-prescriptions, door-to-door delivery of medicines without proper medical consultation, and deep discounting had become a serious threat to the health and safety of patients.
Members of the association said ‘e-pharmacies’ were a threat to public health, adding that poorly stored or counterfeit medicines were dangerous too.
A similar memorandum has been submitted to Deputy Commissioner Aditya Uppal.
