Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday said the martyrdom of the fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan Dev, remains an eternal message of truth, courage and protection of humanity, inspiring people never to bow before injustice, oppression or falsehood.
Addressing a state-level function in Panchkula to mark the 420th martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev, he said the Guru’s supreme sacrifice was not only a legacy of the Sikh community but also a source of inspiration for the entire nation. He described the martyrdom as one of the greatest examples of spiritual strength, unwavering faith and commitment to righteousness in Indian history.
He said Guru Arjan Dev’s teachings of equality, social harmony and service continue to guide the nation as India moves towards the vision of becoming a developed country. He highlighted the Guru’s role in promoting inclusivity through the establishment of Harmandir Sahib, with its four entrances symbolising openness to all, irrespective of caste, creed or religion.
Recalling the Guru’s martyrdom in Lahore under Mughal rule, Saini said Guru Sahib endured extreme torture without compromising on truth and principles, setting an unparalleled example of spiritual resilience. “His sacrifice teaches us never to compromise on truth, justice and culture,” he said. The CM also outlined initiatives taken by the Centre and the state government to honour Sikh heritage.
