The Gurugram police have arrested a man for poisoning and killing his five-month-old son, who was born out a live-in relationship. The accused was apparently not happy with the child’s birth.
An FIR was filed based on a complaint of the child’s mother last year, and the police have arrested the accused now. The accused was identified as Vikramjeet (23), a resident of Barri village in Haryana’s Hisar district.
According to the police, on January 5 last year, they received an information that the child had been taken to a hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead. A police team then reached the hospital and completed the necessary legal proceedings after obtaining the dead body report. Thereafter, the child’s body was kept in the mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
At the mortuary, the child’s mother said she had been in a live-in relationship with a man since 2023 and that their son was born out of that relationship.
She said disputes frequently arose between them after his birth. On January 4, 2025, her partner took the child with him and returned later, stating that the latter was unwell. The child was then taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. She alleged that her live-in partner had either administered a poisonous substance to the child.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered under the relevant provisions at the Bilaspur police station. After a detailed investigation, the police arrested the accused on Monday in Gurugram. “During police interrogation, the accused disclosed that he administered a poisonous substance to the child, resulting in his death. We are questioning the accused,” said a senior police official.
