
Kota Kinabalu: A man was sentenced to five years and two months in jail and ordered to get a stroke of the cane for repeatedly taking syabu.
Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus handed the sentence to Faijal Maidin after he pleaded guilty.
He was found taking the drug after his urine was tested positive for drug at the police station here on March 17, 2022 and he has several conviction records for taking the drug.
The offence under Section 15(1)(a) Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952 is punishable under Section 39C(1)(b) DDA 1952.
The court ordered Faijal to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.
After serving the sentence, the court also ordered Faijal to be placed under police supervision for three years.
Meanwhile, four illegal immigrants were jailed four months each for entering the State illegally.
Kokoi Muhammad, Mohd Gabi Jefri, Kalim Ahailin and Hafiruddin Jupri, pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz.
They were arrested at the city area after failing to produce their identification documents to the police.
They were ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrests.
After completing their jail sentence, the illegal immigrants were ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department for biometric data to be taken before deportation.
