Kota Kinabalu: A man was sentenced to five years’ jail and ordered to get a stroke of the cane for taking syabu repeatedly.

Samsul Kassan pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus, to the charge against him.

He was arrested on Jan 24 this year after his urine was tested positive for drugs at the police station here.

Samsul has several conviction records for taking drugs.

The offence under Section 39C (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 provides for a jail term of between five and seven years, and whipping, on conviction.

The court ordered Samsul to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.

After completing his jail sentence, Samsul was ordered placed under police supervision for three years.

Meanwhile, a woman and a man were jailed for entering the State illegally.

Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz meted out the sentence to Roy Kin Olah and Nursita Nulhasan who admitted separately to the charge against them.

Roy was jailed four months while Nursita was sentenced to 14 days’ jail.

They were arrested on March 10 this year at the city area after failing to produce their identification documents to the police.

After serving their jail sentence, they were ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department for their biometric data to be recorded before deportation.
