Kota Kinabalu: A 51-year-old man was jailed to five years and two months’ for taking syabu, repeatedly.

Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus handed the sentence to Lee Sin Go, who pleaded guilty.

Lee was found taking the drug at 6.20pm on April 20 after his urine was tested positive at the police station here.

He has two previous conviction records under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) for taking drugs.

Read more The offence under Section 39C(1) of the DDA carries a jail term of between five and seven years, and whipping, on conviction.

No whipping was imposes on Lee due to his age.

The court ordered Lee to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.

After serving the jail sentence, Lee was ordered to be placed under police supervision for three years.

During mitigation, Lee who was not represented, asked for leniency saying that he has three children to look after.

However, the prosecution urged the court to impose a heavy sentence.
