Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang will continue to lead PAS as president for the 2025-2027 term after being confirmed the winner without contest at the party’s 71st Annual Congress. The Marang MP, who has held the position for over two decades and previously served as Terengganu’s Menteri Besar, faced no challengers in the latest round of nominations.
The announcement was made by PAS Central Election Committee chairman Wan Rohimi Wan Daud, who said all nomination responses had been reviewed before the confirmation was finalized. The outcome reinforced Abdul Hadi’s long-standing grip over the party, which he has steered since 2002.
Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, MP for Kubang Kerian, also retained his deputy president post without contest, mirroring the stability of the top tier. The three vice-presidential slots remained with Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, Datuk Idris Ahmad, and former Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Amar Abdullah, all returned uncontested.
Other senior posts also saw no changes. Hussin Ismail and Kamal Shaari remained as permanent chairman and deputy respectively, while Alor Setar MP Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden continued as PAS Youth Chief. In the Muslimat wing, Nuridah Salleh retained her leadership, while Datuk Ahmad Yahaya held on as head of the PAS Ulama Council.
While the top hierarchy remained untouched, the race for Central PAS Working Committee (AJK) positions drew significant competition. Thirty-eight candidates will vie for places after eight nominees declined to run. Contestants include Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud, Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli, PAS Treasurer Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad, and senior party figure Nasrudin Hassan. Several PAS MPs also entered the fray, such as Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim (Arau), Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (Pasir Mas), and Dr Halimah Ali (Kapar).
The PAS Annual Congress will convene at the Kedah PAS Complex in Kota Sarang Semut, Pendang, from September 11 to 16. The gathering is expected to reinforce the party’s strategy heading into the next general election, with Abdul Hadi once again at the helm as he extends his presidency beyond 23 years.
