Kuala Lumpur: The unity government must act fairly towards the opposition, including in giving allocations, says PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
Hadi (PN-Marang) said the government and opposition were not necessarily enemies.
“Act fairly, don’t do otherwise just because we are on opposite sides. You should also be fair even towards your enemies.
“The government and opposition are not enemies,” he said during the debate on the 2024 budget in the Dewan Rakyat.

Read more Hadi also took aim at the government for its pressure on the opposition, and for disposing of court cases involving politicians who are part of the unity government.
He said such cases included that of deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who received a discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) in his Yayasan Akalbudi corruption case.
“They act harshly against those opposing them. If one stands against them, they raid offices, homes, and so on.
“But their friends get DNAAs. Those that have been sentenced are pardoned and freed,” he said, without giving any example of a case where a leader who was convicted had been “pardoned and freed”.
Hadi said that the government’s refusal to give allocations to opposition members was “not the way taught by Allah”.
“Opposition members don’t get allocations, those who support them do. This is not the way taught by Allah,” he added.
