LOS ANGELES, June 22 — Nigel Ng has officially been promoted from Uncle Roger to... dad.

The Malaysian-born comedian and YouTube star surprised fans yesterday by announcing that he and his wife, Sabrina Ahmed, have welcomed their first child after the newborn spent a week in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

“And then there were three,” the 35-year-old wrote alongside a series of family photos on Instagram.

“After a week in the NICU, bringing you home today is the most special Father’s Day.”

Ng also thanked the medical team at the hospital in the United States for caring for their baby before slipping back into the deadpan humour that made his Uncle Roger character a global sensation.

“Somewhere I hear my Uncle whispering, ‘Put MSG on baby, it’ll be better baby, smarter...’” he joked, referencing the character’s long-running obsession with monosodium glutamate.

The happy news comes just four months after Ng and Ahmed revealed they were expecting their first child.

At the time, the comedian kept things on brand, captioning the announcement: “New nephew coming soon!”

The announcement was quickly flooded with congratulatory messages from fans and fellow creators, marking another major milestone for the comedian, who has built an international following through his food reviews, stand-up comedy and the wildly popular Uncle Roger persona.

Even celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay — once the target of Uncle Roger’s famously blunt food critiques before later collaborating with him — joined the chorus of well-wishers.

Ng married Ahmed, a lawyer, in July 2025 after two years together. Their three-day wedding celebration in Sintra, Portugal, blended Malaysian and Bengali traditions, with festivities including a sunset cruise, a sangeet, Chinese and Western tea ceremonies, and a lavish reception.

Ng first shot to global fame in 2020 when Uncle Roger’s reaction video critiquing a celebrity fried rice recipe went viral. Since then, the character’s catchphrases, exaggerated disappointment over poor Asian cooking and unwavering love for MSG have become internet staples, helping Ng amass millions of followers across YouTube and social media.

Now, fans are already joking that Uncle Roger has found his newest — and tiniest — food critic. Whether the baby grows up loving fried rice with extra MSG, however, remains to be seen.
