Kota Kinabalu: Former Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan’s advice helped inspire Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to become what it is today.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is also GRS Chairman, gave special credit to the former Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president in his speech at the official launch of his new party at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

Hajiji said until today it is still fresh in his mind the view given by Pairin, whom he respected so much, when he visited him (Pairin) about a year ago.

“I was sharing with him, updating him on the formation of the Parti Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS). Despite no longer holding any official post in politics, he (Pairin) gave his commitment to support the GRS struggle.

“He also advised that I and friends think and work on continuing the struggle in a local party. He wished to see GRS become a vessel that not only carries 100 per cent local image but also fully participated by all local parties,” said the Chief Minister.

Pairin was among the approximately 10,000 leaders and supporters who attended the launch.
