DATUK Seri Hajiji Noor is expected to be sworn in as the next Chief Minister of Sabah tonight, following unofficial results from the Sabah state election.

Early indications showed Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is on course to form the state government.

According to GRS insiders, a series of leadership discussions has taken place since this afternoon, involving negotiations with coalition partners and allied parties at the federal level.

Sources also indicated that Istana Seri Kinabalu has been briefed on the progress of the new government’s formation, with initial preparations underway for an audience with the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Musa Aman.

Unofficial tallies show GRS securing 30 state seats—seven short of a simple majority.

With Pakatan Harapan holding two seats, and potential support from independents and smaller parties, Hajiji is widely expected to command sufficient backing to form the next administration.

According to a local Sabah news outlet, police checkpoints are being set up along the access road leading to the Governor’s official residence.

Only RTM and a select group of media outlets accredited by the palace were allowed through.

The swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place once the Election Commission announces the official results, anticipated around 11 pm. – November 29, 2025
