KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government has rejected allegations circulated on social media suggesting that Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor met with businessman Albert Tei in connection with a mining scandal, describing the post as a calculated attempt to smear his name.
Sabah People’s Progressive Party (PGRS) information chief Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said the Chief Minister, in his role as head of the state government, frequently holds official meetings with various stakeholders, all of which are attended by senior officers.
He said those behind the social media post had acted maliciously by using a photograph to imply wrongdoing.
According to Nizam, Hajiji has been open about the matter and has called for a full investigation, assuring that the state government will give its full cooperation to the authorities.
He added that a local news outlet reported that Albert had allegedly orchestrated a scene at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport before his court hearing to create public sympathy and distract from the corruption case against him.
