A recently viral sensation on social media, the clay pot chicken rice stall in Sri Petaling, has raised concerns regarding its halal certification status. The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) has officially confirmed that this particular eatery does not possess the necessary halal certification.

Jakim issued a statement on Facebook, advising Muslim consumers to exercise caution when selecting food establishments. They emphasized the importance of ensuring that food premises hold the official Malaysia Halal Verification Certificate (SPHM) issued by the Malaysian Halal Certification Authority.

The statement released on Saturday addressed the specific issue, stating, "The social media post that went viral displayed the halal status of an eatery in Sri Petaling that used rice wine in their cooking, causing worries among Muslim consumers who visited the premises."

To corroborate this, Malaysia Halal Portal conducted checks, revealing that the aforementioned premise did not possess a legitimate SPHM, and Jakim had never issued a halal certification for it.

For those seeking more information on halal products and food premises with SPHM, Jakim suggested visiting the Official Malaysia Halal Portal. Additionally, they introduced the Verify Halal smartphone application as a convenient tool for conducting these checks.

Jakim encouraged consumers to follow their Halal Management Division's Facebook page for further explanations regarding the circulating halal concerns.

The Clay Pot Chicken Rice Stall, run by a Muslim husband and wife who are fluent in the Mandarin and Cantonese dialects, has gained significant attention on social media recently. Most of those who saw the viral video has also made their way to savour the claypot chicken rice at their premise. However, allegations arose suggesting the use of rice wine alcohol in the food preparation, has caused some mixed reactions from the Malay community.

In response to these concerns, the premise has temporarily closed its doors.
