RESET Movement founder Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin announced the formation of a new political party - Parti Wawasan Negara today.
Speaking at the Reset Convention, Hamzah said the party's annual general meeting is expected to be held next week.
He said the party name was chosen by PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
The Larut MP said the party gives the Reset movement — comprising leaders and members who have left or been expelled from Bersatu — a formal political platform ahead of the next general election.
“We want to work together with PAS, Gerakan and other parties. Insya-Allah, we will build greater understanding and a more comprehensive and convincing political cooperation," he said in his speech at the convention officiated by Hadi Awang.
Also present were Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Samsuri Mokhtar and GERAKAN President Datuk Dr Dominic Lau.
Last week, it was reported that Hamzah would be announcing a new party today.
However, it is not immediately clear if the party is newly-registered or a rebrand of an existing party.
Hamzah said Parti Wawasan Negara is committed to helping establish a strong political platform that prioritises the future and well-being of Malaysians.
“Insya-Allah, we will help build a solid foundation for the future agenda of the people throughout the country,” he added.
Indera Mahkota Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah, had earlier said that the new party would later become a member of a coalition of political parties to be stronger.
He stressed that Hamzah, who is also the former Deputy President of BERSATU, is now leading 'RESET' as a movement to implement the idea of the New National Consensus and to realise it, it is necessary for a political party.
Hamzah retained as Opposition Leader
Meanwhile, PAS and the Reset Movement reached an agreement to reappoint Hamzah as Opposition Leader, said Hadi Awang.
According to him, the decision was made to ensure the continuity of the opposition leadership under the existing structure, in addition to maintaining the stability of cooperation between the parties in the bloc.
At the same time, Samsuri was also retained as PN Chairman.
On May 16, it was reported that Samsuri had been appointed the new opposition leader following Hamzah's sacking from Bersatu. – June 13, 2026
