If you’re planning a trip to South Korea and want to dive into the local culture, wearing a traditional Hanbok is a must. That's what I always do whenever I visit other countries, it makes me feel like I'm part of them and it allows better memories and photo taking experiences! In order to enhance your hanbok rental and photo taking experiences, I feel that there's a need for me to share it in this article of where I rented my hanbok clothing, what I've experienced and what could have been better! Most importantly, the prices are very reasonable, and the overall experience was smooth and fun, so I’m excited to share it with you.

At The Artist Hanbok (연예인한복), I rented a stunning set of Hanbok at the rate of 5,000 KRW (approximately RM15) for 2 hours! Can you picture it? Believe me, two hours is more than enough to travel back and forth between the rental shop and Gyeongbokgung Palace. You’ll have plenty of time to take beautiful solo photos as well as snaps with your friends and family. However, if you plan to wear the hanbok while dining at other restaurants, two hours wouldn't suffice. Surprisingly, the RM15 isn't just for hanbok rental, it even includes a matching handbag which goes perfectly well with your Hanbok, as well as access to a locker for your belongings!

Not stunning enough? They even provide hairstyling services at a reasonable rate between 5,000 KRW to 20,000 KRW (approximately RM60). If you'd like a hairstyle like mine, it's just 10,000 KRW (approximately RM30)! With that, you're totally a local already, and that's where you can start taking photos freely at the Gyeongbokgung Palace. Note that by wearing the Hanbok clothing, entrance to the Gyeongbokgung Palace is totally free, that's where you get to save up!

What's the best part of it? You don't need a reservation, all you need to do is just walk-in, and their staffs are able to speak both English and Chinese, allowing ease of communication for all of us!

Few tips you need to note:

  1. It's best to look through hanbok rental photos online before you get there, so that you don't waste too much time selecting. (Note: you won’t be able to switch, so be sure to make a final decision before the staff helps you get dressed.)
  2. Plan your visit wisely. The Gyeongbokgung Palace is closed on Tuesdays, so do avoid those days or you'll be disappointed!
  3. Wear a white or beige singlet inside. Avoid wearing anything too thick to prevent looking bulky, or you might be asked to remove your top when changing clothes.
  4. Try wearing thinner shorts and avoid anything longer than knee-length. Otherwise, you'll have to roll them up to just below the knee, which can be uncomfortable for walking all day.
  5. Pair with comfortable white sneakers and white or light-colored socks. Try to avoid dark or overly flashy colors, as white complements the Hanbok well. Also, since you’ll be walking for three to four hours around Gyeongbokgung Palace for photos, a comfortable pair of shoes is essential.
  6. Putting up your on makeup would make your entire look way better, do include mascara and artificial lashes to make your look even stunning!
