Hanis can appeal her suspension to MHC, NSC

KUALA LUMPUR – Suspended national women's hockey striker Hanis Nadiah Onn could get a second chance to represent the country at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia in May.

The player was suspended following her racist comment about those who attended the AR Rahman concert, which took place at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium last month.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said the 26-year-old player can appeal to the independent committee comprising members from the National Sports Council (NSC) and the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC).

“This is a joint investigation by the NSC and MHC. The decision made is based on their findings and recommendations.

“It is their decision, and we have to respect it.

“If she wishes to appeal, she can meet Datuk Shapawi Ismail (NSC director-general) or Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal (MHC president),” explained Hannah when met during a visit to the Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) here, today.

Yesterday, in a statement, MHC said that Hanis has been suspended and will not be representing the national team. However, the suspension will be re-evaluated should Hanis exhibit a positive change in attitude during her suspension. – The Vibes, February 10, 2023
