HULU SELANGOR, May 11 — Pakatan Harapan candidate Pang Sock Tao today visited the SJKC Khing Ming voting centre during the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election to greet the electorate.
She was spotted speaking to the media and Election Commission officers before mingling with voters.
At the centre, the presence of two sets of twins caught everyone’s attention. Sock Tao arrived at the voting centre at 8.40am with her twin sister, Sock Ying, where they met 25-year-old twin voters Chan Sher Ni and Chan Sher Er.
“I have accompanied my sister on her campaign trail a few times. I also came to support her during the nomination,” said Sock Ying, who is a banker.
Sock Tao faces a four-cornered contest with Perikatan Nasional’s Khairul Azhari Saut, Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Hafizah Zainuddin, and Independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.
Today, some went the extra mile to ensure they could cast their ballots, with one having reached the voting centre at 5am and a couple having travelled all the way from Kuala Kangsar, Perak, to vote.
Farmer B. Kartik, 40, from Taman Ampang Pechah said he arrived at 5am at the SMK Ampang Pechah centre even though his home was only 2km from the polling station.
“I came early not because I didn’t want to queue, but because I’m excited to vote,” he said.
A couple made the over 200km journey from Kuala Kangsar, Perak, to Kuala Kubu Baharu to cast their votes.
Abdul Rahim Bidin, 67, and his wife Norani Mansor, 65, left before dawn and took nearly three hours to reach the voting centre.
“Even though it was a long way, I still wanted to vote. I used to live here before moving to Kuala Kangsar 10 years ago,” said the retiree after casting his ballot at SJKC Khing Ming.
The Election Commission said voter turnout as at 1pm was 38.88 per cent.
Voting centres close at 6pm today, with only the SJKC Bukit Fraser polling station to shut at 2pm.
