A total of 270 participants came together for The Big Pink Walk 2026, organised by Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast as part of its annual PINKTOBER® campaign to raise breast cancer awareness and support patients and survivors in Johor.
Held on 10 October 2026 under the theme "Stronger Together", the charity initiative brought together participants across its physical and virtual categories, alongside healthcare professionals, community partners and supporters of breast cancer awareness.
The event featured a 5km charity walk from The Els Club Desaru Coast to Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast, providing an opportunity for individuals and families to demonstrate their support for those affected by breast cancer.
Beyond raising awareness, the walk forms part of the hotel's wider fundraising commitment to Breast Cancer Support Group (BCSG) Johor Bahru, with a target of RM100,000 over 12 months to assist breast cancer patients and survivors.
The initiative also featured on-site health screenings provided by Gleneagles Hospital Johor, while contributions from community partners supported the organisation of the event.
Although the physical walk has concluded, supporters can continue participating through the virtual category, which remains open until 31 October 2026 and allows participants in Malaysia and overseas to complete the 5km distance at a location of their choice.

270 Participants Unite for The Big Pink Walk 2026 in Desaru Coast
The charity event began at The Els Club Desaru Coast, where participants gathered ahead of the official 7.00 am flag-off before embarking on the 5km route towards Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast.
The morning brought together individuals and families who took part in the walk as a gesture of solidarity with breast cancer patients and survivors, reflecting the event's theme of collective support.
By combining physical participation with a virtual walking category, the initiative also provided an opportunity for people unable to attend the event in Johor to participate from other locations.
The official flag-off was attended by Tuan Norazmi bin Amir Hamzah, Yang Dipertua Majlis Perbandaran Pengerang; Dr Aina Shafiza Abd Aziz, General, Breast & Endocrine Surgeon; Murray Aitken, General Manager of Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast; and Datin Ang Chin Fan, President of BCSG Johor Bahru.
Their involvement reflected the collaboration between the hotel, local authorities, healthcare professionals and community organisations in bringing attention to breast cancer awareness.
The event also received support from The Els Club, Adventure Waterpark and Starbucks, whose sponsorships and contributions helped facilitate the charity walk.
While walking was the central activity, the event's broader purpose was to encourage continued public awareness and support for individuals affected by breast cancer, rather than limiting the conversation to a single annual occasion.

PINKTOBER® 2026 Highlights the Importance of Year-Round Breast Cancer Awareness
The Big Pink Walk is one of the activities organised under Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast's annual PINKTOBER® campaign, which focuses on raising awareness and generating support for people affected by breast cancer.
Although October is internationally recognised as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the hotel's campaign emphasises the importance of maintaining awareness and community involvement beyond the annual observance.
According to Murray Aitken, General Manager of Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast and Area Vice President, Hotel Operations - Asia, Hard Rock International, The Big Pink Walk provides an opportunity for the community to come together while reinforcing the need for continued support.
"The pink ribbon awareness shouldn't be something we talk about once a year and then move on from. That's why The Big Pink Walk means so much to us. It's a chance to get people together, have some fun and stand behind a cause that matters. Having families, friends and our partners show up together is exactly the kind of energy we want PINKTOBER® to create. But the real impact comes from what we do next, by keeping the conversation going and helping BCSG Johor Bahru reach more patients and survivors," he said.
His remarks underline the campaign's emphasis on sustaining community engagement rather than treating breast cancer awareness as an activity confined to October.
For patients and survivors, ongoing support can involve practical needs as well as encouragement from family members, friends and community organisations.
By working with BCSG Johor Bahru, the hotel aims to contribute towards assistance that can extend beyond the immediate awareness campaign.
Gleneagles Hospital Johor Provides On-Site Health Screenings
In addition to the walk, Gleneagles Hospital Johor supported the event's breast cancer awareness efforts by providing on-site health screenings for participants and visitors.
The involvement of healthcare professionals added a health awareness component to the community event, allowing attendees to engage with screening-related activities alongside the charity walk.
Breast cancer awareness initiatives play a role in encouraging people to pay attention to changes in their health and seek appropriate medical guidance when necessary.
While community events can help promote awareness, individuals should consult qualified healthcare professionals regarding suitable breast screening methods and schedules based on their personal circumstances.
The collaboration between the hotel, Gleneagles Hospital Johor and BCSG Johor Bahru brought together community participation, healthcare involvement and charitable fundraising within the same initiative.

Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast Targets RM100,000 for BCSG Johor Bahru
The Big Pink Walk forms part of a wider collaboration between Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast and Breast Cancer Support Group (BCSG) Johor Bahru, with the hotel working towards a RM100,000 fundraising target over 12 months.
The funds are intended to provide assistance to breast cancer patients and survivors, including support for subsidised silicone prostheses and mastectomy bras.
These items can form part of the practical needs of individuals who have undergone breast surgery, making financial assistance relevant for those who may face additional expenses during or after treatment.
The fundraising target is being pursued through several activities rather than relying exclusively on proceeds from The Big Pink Walk.
One of the earlier initiatives was the inaugural 2026 Golf Classic by Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast, held from 25 to 27 September 2026 at The Els Club Desaru Coast.
The golf event raised RM15,000 for BCSG Johor Bahru, contributing towards the hotel's broader fundraising commitment.
The fundraising programme subsequently continued with a charity pickleball clinic and demonstration with Selkirk on 17 and 18 October 2026, with all ticket proceeds directed towards the campaign.
Further fundraising activities include an online silent auction featuring hotel experiences, merchandise and donated items.
Together, these activities provide different opportunities for individuals and community partners to contribute, whether through sporting events, charity participation or auction purchases.
The hotel has not announced the total amount raised across all PINKTOBER® activities in the supplied update. The confirmed RM15,000 contribution from the Golf Classic therefore represents one reported fundraising result rather than the overall campaign total.
The Big Pink Walk 2026 Virtual Category Remains Open Until 31 October
Although the physical event took place on 10 October, Malaysians who were unable to attend in person still have an opportunity to participate through The Big Pink Walk 2026 virtual category.
The virtual walk is open to participants in Malaysia and overseas, allowing individuals to complete the 5km distance at a location of their choice.
This format provides greater flexibility for supporters who may not be able to travel to Desaru Coast but still wish to take part in the charity initiative.
Registration is priced at RM120 per participant, with participants required to complete their virtual walk by 31 October 2026.
Those interested in joining can register through the official event page at The Big Pink Walk 2026: Stronger Together.
As the virtual category has a specified completion deadline, prospective participants should review the registration information and applicable event requirements before signing up.
Keeping Breast Cancer Awareness and Community Support Going
With 270 participants across its physical and virtual categories, The Big Pink Walk 2026 demonstrates how community activities can bring individuals, healthcare providers and organisations together around a shared cause.
For Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast, the charity walk also forms part of a longer-term effort to support breast cancer patients and survivors through its ongoing relationship with BCSG Johor Bahru.
The combination of a community walk, health screenings, sporting events and fundraising activities reflects the hotel's approach to extending its PINKTOBER® campaign beyond a single event.
With a RM100,000 fundraising target over 12 months, the campaign continues to focus on providing practical assistance while encouraging public awareness and community involvement.
As the virtual walk reaches its 31 October deadline, supporters who wish to participate can still contribute to the initiative, reinforcing the campaign's central message of standing together with those affected by breast cancer.
