I learned from one of my top former students, Hariz Tresnjo who graduated from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with a postgraduate degree in Master of Management (MMgt) that he has signed up as a candidate for 2026 Bosnian general election scheduled to be held on Sunday, 04 October. He briefed me that “The election cycle will determine 518 officials across state and entity levels, including the tripartite presidency & national, entity, and cantonal parliaments. The central registry determined eligible voters, with dozens of political entities & independent candidates participating.”
Hariz added, “The OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions & Human Rights (ODIHR) deployed as observation mission led by Tana de Zulueta to monitor the vote. The mission comprises core experts, long-term observers & short-term monitors tracking media, campaign finances, and electoral technologies.”
I understand Haris currently serving an established 75 years old company “IGMAN” d.d. Konjic in Bosnia Herzegovina as the Executive Director in charge of Marketing, Finance and Legal Affairs. He revealed “IGMAN has about 2,000 people of different professional backgrounds and cultures with individuals busy working for more urgent solutions. The relationship between Bosnia and Malaysia is historically close and warm, anchored heavily in Malaysia's stanch diplomatic, humanitarian, and military support during the 1992-1995 Bosnian War. Malaysia's then Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad emerged as a vocal global champion for the Bosniak population & lobbied heavily within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to coordinate international aid & resources for this independent state.
I remember Haris shared with me and his classmates at IIUM that bilateral cooperation with Malaysia extended into Islamic banking and the global halal food market. In 2010, three Malaysian Islamic banks set up operations in Bosnia to bridge investment channels, and acts as a gateway into the Balkans.
