Vice President Kamala Harris appeared on CBS’s 60 Minutes on Monday and was pressed on her economic plan, US support for Ukraine and Israel and her experiences as a gun owner.

“I believe that the people of America want a leader who is not trying to divide us and demean,” the Democratic presidential nominee said of rival Donald Trump, whom she had called “extraordinarily irresponsible” earlier in the day over his false claims that the government is ignoring the victims of Hurricane Helene.

Harris is continuing her media blitz today with appearances on ABC’s The View, Howard Stern’s radio show, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Her running mate Tim Walz was also grilled on 60 Minutes and made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show.

Trump, meanwhile, hosted an event commemorating the October 7 attack on Israel, paying his respects while also complaining about lacklustre Jewish support for his campaign and blasting out “YMCA” by The Village People – an odd choice given the solemnity of the occasion.

In a radio interview, he falsely claimed to have been to Gaza and suggested migrants have violent crime “in their genes”.

Democratic lawmakers are worried Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign is not resonating with crucial working-class voters, especially in Michigan where the race is neck-and-neck.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has reportedly urged the Harris–Walz campaign to spend more time in her state, touting the VP’s economic policies and emphasizing the Biden–Harris administration’s work that appeals directly to auto and blue-collar workers, the Wall Street Journal reported.

What have we learned from Melania Trump’s memoir about life in the White House?

17:00

Oliver O'Connell

Melania Trump’s new memoir isn’t exactly brimming full of juicy gossip and anecdotes.

In fact, it does little to unveil the personality of the woman behind the 45th president as she matter-of-factly writes about her life.

Years of that life, however, have been spent in the White House – and the former first lady seems genuinely passionate about the address and its historical preservation.

She also offers up a few fun facts about 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue that are likely unknown to most non-residents, from its protocol to history to decoration.

Here are some of the quirky details about life in the White House revealed within the pages of Melania:

Kamala Harris returned to the topic of what the difference between her administration and Joe Biden’s presidency would be during a segment in which she spoke about Medicare and approaching problems with practical solutions.

“You asked me what is the difference between Joe Biden and me, well I am going to have a Republican [in my Cabinet]. Because I don’t, I don’t feel burdened by letting pride get in the way of a good idea.”

The View: Harris asked about Trump’s claims about FEMA funds and DeSantis call

16:27

Oliver O'Connell

During her appearance on The View, Kamala Harris is asked about Donald Trump's baseless claims that FEMA funds are being diverted away from Republican parts of states hit by Hurricane Helene.

She responded: “This is so consistent about Donald Trump. He puts himself before the needs of others. I fear that he really lacks empathy on a very basic level, to care about the suffering of other people.”

On Florida Governor Ron DeSantis apparently not taking her call regarding the recovery from Helene and the impending impact of Hurricane Milton, Harris said she's talked with both Democrat and Republican governors. "So obviously, this is not an issue that is about partisanship or politics for certain leaders, but maybe is for others."

"And when I'm president I will continue to call him to see what he needs."

She responds: “There is not a thing that comes to mind in terms of — and I’ve been a part of most of the decisions that have had an impact.”

Harris then lists the accomplishments of the administration including lowering the cost of insulin and increasing spending on infrastructure.

Trump campaign claims Woodward’s stories ‘made-up'

15:57

Oliver O'Connell

Steven Cheung, communications director for the Trump campaign told The Independent:

“None of these made up stories by Bob Woodward are true and are the work of a truly demented and deranged man who suffers from a debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome. Woodward is an angry, little man and is clearly upset because President Trump is successfully suing him because of the unauthorized publishing of recordings he made previously. President Trump gave him absolutely no access for this trash book that either belongs in the bargain bin of the fiction section of a discount bookstore or used as toilet tissue. Woodward is a total sleazebag who has lost it mentally, and he's slow, lethargic, incompetent and overall a boring person with no personality.”

Trump spoke with Putin at least seven times since leaving White House according to Bob Woodward

Donald Trump has reportedly spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin as many as seven times since leaving the White House.

A new book from journalist Bob Woodward includes extensive reporting about President Joe Biden’s “blunt, profanity-laced” behind-the-scenes responses to Putin’s war in Ukraine and Israel’s war in Gaza.

Woodward’s War — his fourth book since Trump won in 2016, excerpts of which were published by CNN — also contains previously unreported details about the former president’s relationship with the authoritarian leader, including a moment at Mar-a-Lago where he told a senior aide to leave the room so they could have a “private phone call.”

Trump recalled his son’s reaction over the weekend while appearing on The Ingraham Angle on Fox News in an interview that aired last night.

“Barron – and Barron really likes his father a lot. And he came in ‘Mom, Mom, Mom, what happened?’ So, and then they saw me get up, and then they saw the fist pump.”

DNC erecting ‘Shame on Trump’ billboards across North Carolina to draw attention to hurricane of lies

To hold Trump accountable for his false claims that the federal government is not helping people in North Carolina, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) has announced it putting out 17 billboards across the key swing state elevating a recent editorial attack on the Republican by The Charlotte Observer newspaper.

“In the wake of Hurricane Helene, Donald Trump wasted no time politicizing a tragedy to score political points, while spreading dangerous disinformation that risks discouraging those who need support from seeking it,” says DNC spokesperson Maddy Mundy.

“Showing up for families in need is a nonpartisan issue. The Biden-Harris administration is working day and night with officials on the ground – be they Republicans or Democrats – to support impacted communities and help them recover.

“North Carolinians deserve a leader who will fight for them, not capitalize off of their suffering for cheap political points. Once again, Donald Trump proves himself unfit to lead.”
