Kota Kinabalu: Former Chief Minister Tan Sri Harris Salleh said over 59 years of being governed by a coalition of racial and religious-based parties has only resulted in widening religious and racial divisions among Malaysians.
Harris who led Sabah’s multi-racial Berjaya to victory in 1976 said the time may be right to consider a national multiracial-based party as the backbone for a new Federal Government.
He said, after all, Malaysia is supposed to be a multiracial country and it is the aim of every leader and every Malaysian to be known as a Malaysian first rather than as a Malay, Chinese, Indian, Dayak or Kadazan.
