  • Larry Summers, a Harvard professor and former university president, is set to resign from his teaching role at the end of the academic year.
  • Summers served as treasury secretary under former President Bill Clinton and led Harvard as president for five years starting in 2001.
  • His resignation follows the revelation of his close relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. Summers’ name appeared hundreds of times in the recently released Epstein files.
  • Summers has been on leave from Harvard since November and will not return to the university before his final day. A Harvard spokesperson confirmed that Summers' resignation is connected to the university's ongoing review of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein.
  • “Free of formal responsibility, as President Emeritus and a retired professor, I look forward in time to engaging in research, analysis, and commentary on a range of global economic issues,” Summers said. He has also stepped down from his role as co-director of the Mossava-Rahmani Center for Business and Government.
