Kota Kinabalu: All eyes will be at the Tambalang Race Course in Tuaran today (Sunday) where some of the finest horses will vie for top honours in the Harvest Festival Cup race.

The race hosted by the Royal Sabah Turf Club (RSTC) will see total prize money of RM40,000 up for grab.

The race is opened to Class One and Class Two horses with rating between 69 and 121, whereby 11 horses guided by their respective jockeys will try to conquer the 1,400m race on turf track.

“Coronation II, One Kinabalu and Smart Lad will start as favourites,” said RSTC Chairman Datuk Peter Chin, who added the race is expected to start at 4:05pm.

Read more He said the champion of the main event will receive RM21,000 while the second to sixth placing will get RM8,200, RM4,000, RM1,800, RM800 and RM250.

“The winning jockey will take home RM2,100 followed by RM800, RM400, RM200, RM100 and RM50 for the second to sixth placing,” he said, adding that Sunday’s event would also involve three other races.

“The day will kick off with the Penampang Handicap and Aramaiti Handicap initiation races, which covers the distance of 1,100m on sand track and it is open to Class Three and Class Four horses with ratings between 32 and 66.

“It will be followed by the main event Harvest Festival Cup before the day conclude with the Kaamatan Challenge Trophy, which is expected to start at 5:05pm,” he said.

A total of 12 horses will be involved in the final race of the day, he added.
