The Fast Track Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Amberdeep Singh on Monday awarded rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 20 years to two men for kidnapping and raping a married woman in April 2024.
The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 36,000 upon each convict.
Rajesh Chaudhary, Deputy Director (Prosecution), said the incident was reported to the police on April 24, 2024.
In her complaint to the Sector-29 industrial police station, a woman said she, along with her husband, was living in a rented accommodation in Panipat and had to go to Ambala. On April 24, they came to NH-44 to get some vehicles at around 4 am.
Meanwhile, a three-wheeler came there and asked them to sit in it, but she refused. Meanwhile, they beat her husband and kidnapped her forcibly in their three-wheeler. They took her to an agricultural field where a room was constructed.
Both had forcibly raped her and also made some videos while they were raping her. She also said that both were calling each other by the names Sumit and Rohit.
Following the complaint, the police visited the spot and also collected evidence from the spot.
Later, the police arrested two accused -Sumit alias Kala and Rohit of Machroli village – of the district and also seized their mobile phones from their possession. The police also recovered five videos from their mobile phones, in which they were seen raping the victim.
Chaudhary further said that the victim got hostile during the trial, but the videos recovered from the accused’s mobile phones and the DNA reports have become the main basis of the conviction of both convicts.
Based on the scientific evidence and the videos, the Fast Track Court on Monday awarded a sentence to both.
