A delegation from the Haryana Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI), Yamunanagar, led by its president Rajesh Sondhi, attended a special conclave organised by HCCI-Kurukshetra on Saturday.
The conclave aimed to strengthen trade relations between India and Cuba and explore new investment opportunities.
Juan Carlos Marsán Aguilera, Ambassador of Cuba, attended the event as chief guest. He was accompanied by Prof Mikey Diaz Perez, First Secretary at the Embassy of Cuba.
During the conclave, the HCCI-Yamunanagar delegation held a one-to-one meeting with the Cuban Ambassador and the First Secretary, during which detailed discussions took place on trade prospects between India and Cuba. Particular focus was placed on the import of various wood species from Cuba, investment opportunities in the agriculture and forestry sectors, and schemes and incentives being offered by the Cuban government to foreign investors.
“Ambassador Juan Carlos Marsán Aguilera informed the delegation that he would soon invite the HCCI Yamunanagar delegation to Delhi for detailed discussions on trade and investment opportunities with Cuba. Following this, a special meeting will be organised between representatives of the Haryana Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Cuba Chamber of Commerce to formulate future strategies related to agriculture, agro-farming, forestry, and the export-import of wood species,” said Rajesh Sondhi, president of HCCI-Yamunanagar.
He further said the Ambassador had indicated that Cuba was keen to establish a long-term trade partnership with India and that significant opportunities for investment and business were available there for Indian industrialists.
Sondhi described the conclave as “extremely useful and inspiring”.
“The discussions with the Ambassador and First Secretary of Cuba made it clear that there are vast opportunities for our industries in the fields of wood imports, agriculture, forestry and investment. HCCI-Yamunanagar will play an active role in this direction,” he said.
HCCI-Yamunanagar General Secretary Sumeet Gupta said the meeting would provide a new direction to trade relations between India and Cuba.
“The investment opportunities and schemes being offered by the Cuban government can prove beneficial for our industries. The upcoming meetings will further strengthen trade cooperation,” Gupta said.
The delegation also included HCCI-Yamunanagar Treasurer Deepak Sondhi and Vice-President Sant Gyaneshwar Kwatra.
