In a major push to curb illegal prenatal sex determination and female foeticide, the Haryana Government has sought stronger coordination with Uttar Pradesh to dismantle interstate networks operating in violation of the PC&PNDT Act.

Additional Chief Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) Dr Sumita Misra has written to her Uttar Pradesh counterpart, Amit Kumar Ghosh, seeking coordinated enforcement, administrative support and seamless police assistance for joint operations against offenders.

Emphasising the shared responsibility of the two neighbouring states, Dr Misra said both governments were committed to improving the sex ratio at birth and advancing the objectives of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign.

“Stronger coordination between neighbouring states will help dismantle illegal networks more effectively and contribute to further improvement in the sex ratio at birth,” she said.

Haryana has significantly intensified its campaign against illegal prenatal sex determination through decoy operations, interstate raids and coordinated police action. According to official data, the state’s PC&PNDT teams conducted 84 raids between January 2024 and March 2026, including 37 operations in Uttar Pradesh, reflecting Haryana’s determination to pursue offenders beyond its borders.

The latest success came earlier this month when Haryana and Uttar Pradesh police jointly busted an interstate racket operating out of Sonepat. Thirteen persons, including a doctor, were booked for allegedly transporting pregnant women across state lines for illegal prenatal sex determination tests.

Investigations revealed that pregnant women from Haryana were taken to Uttar Pradesh to evade enforcement agencies, with illegal ultrasound-based sex determination allegedly being conducted for Rs 35,000 to Rs 50,000 per case.

Dr Misra has requested the Uttar Pradesh Government to direct District Magistrates and Chief Medical Officers in districts bordering Haryana to provide prompt administrative and police assistance whenever Haryana’s PC&PNDT teams conduct raids. She also stressed the need for effective follow-up of court cases to ensure offenders are brought to justice.
