Haryana Chief Minister (CM) Nayab Singh Saini on Monday said the state government is committed to restoring the glory of Tirthas under the “48-kos” land of Kurukshetra.
While addressing the state-level Somnath Swabhiman Parva at the Shri Sangmeshwar Mahadev Temple Arunai in Pehowa, the CM said there are believed to be 367 Tirthas under the 48-kos land between the Saraswati and Drishadvati rivers.
Over time, a number of Tirthas have become extinct. As many as 182 Tirthas, spread across the districts of Kurukshetra, Karnal, Kaithal, Panipat and Jind in Haryana, have been identified and documented so far.
Saini said sincere efforts are being made for the rejuvenation of Tirthas, preservation of temples and sarovars and promotion of religious tourism.
On this occasion, the CM offered prayers at the temple and also watched the live telecast from Somnath Temple, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered special prayers and addressed the gathering.
Saini informed that devotees from across the country are visiting Somnath Temple during the commemorative year, and a special pilgrimage from Haryana will depart on June 8 under the “Mukhyamantri Tirtha Yatra Yojana”.
During the programme, the CM flagged off a grand Kalash Yatra comprising 101 women and also felicitated saints and sages who had arrived from various pilgrimage sites within the 48-kos region.
Saini also inaugurated and visited a special exhibition on Somnath Swabhiman Parv, showcasing the history and cultural heritage of the Somnath Temple, along with various aspects related to the nation’s faith and pride.
Earlier in the day, Saini visited Jyotisar Tirtha, the birthplace of the Gita, to pay obeisance. During the visit, he also reviewed the ongoing development works at Jyotisar.
