The principals and headmasters of all government schools in Haryana have been directed to carry out the repair and maintenance work of the school buildings and ensure the provision of basic facilities therein during the ongoing summer vacation.
In a letter issued on June 2, the Director-General (Secondary Education), Haryana, has asked all district education officers (DEOs) to direct the school principals and headmasters to ensure the completion of the aforesaid works during the vacation.
“The minor repair/maintenance works or provision of basic facilities which require an expenditure of up to Rs 1 lakh can be completed from the available consolidated children welfare fund wherever feasible, and in case of non-availability of sufficient funds, the requests for funds should be forwarded to the headquarters within seven days through the respective DEOs," maintains the letter.
It points out that in case funds are not available for these works, then estimates duly verified by the JE/SDE of Samagra Shiksha and countersigned by the DEO concerned should be sent to the department within a week.
The letter states that the officers from the headquarters, who have been assigned district-wise duties of inspection of schools, will also randomly visit the schools during the summer vacation and check the infrastructure and other facilities being provided there.
“If any discrepancy/carelessness is found on the part of the principals and headmasters, a serious view will be taken and strict disciplinary action will be taken against them," it warns, adding that the aforesaid instructions are taken on top priority and compliance is to be made in letter and spirit.
