With back-to-back General House meetings being cancelled due to a lack of quorum, the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) president Jagdish Singh Jhinda criticised the dissenting members and sought their resignations.

Accusing the dissenting group of disturbing the functioning of the committee for vested interests, Jhinda said “Without getting the budget passed, the development works and various other projects related to health care and education cannot be started.”

“At present, the smooth functioning of the Miri Piri Hospital is one of the major concerns for the committee but due to some members, the functioning of the HSGMC has come to a standstill,” he added.

In the 49-member House, 33 are required to complete the quorum. In the executive body of 11 members, the figure needed for the quorum is eight. As per the president, only 32 members reached the head office in Kurukshetra for the House meeting on June 16. Meanwhile, the dissenting members, led by co-opted member Baljit Singh Daduwal, had gathered at Gurdwara Nada Sahib. “The sole purpose of the House meeting on June 16 was to remove four executive body members opposing the HSGMC president’s dictatorial actions. He has failed to hold the General House and executive body meetings and pass the budget. He should resign on moral grounds,” Daduwal said.

As both groups continue to be at loggerheads, the functioning of the Miri Piri Hospital is set to be affected.

Recently, the hospital’s consultant specialists took a one-day mass leave to mark their resentment over pending salaries. They again met on Wednesday and, according to sources, a call for a strike on Friday was likely.
