Netflix has officially renewed Devil May Cry for a third and final season, bringing Dante’s supernatural adventure closer to its planned conclusion. Alongside the renewal announcement, showrunner Adi Shankar revealed that the series was always designed as a three-part saga inspired by Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy. Based on the popular video game franchise of the same name created by Hideki Kamiya, Netflix series Devil May Cry follows demon hunter Dante as he battles threats from both the human and demon worlds while uncovering the truth about his family’s legacy.
The Netflix adaptation was developed by Adi Shankar and animated by Studio Mir, known for projects such as The Legend of Korra and The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.
All about Devil May Cry season 3 on Netflix
On June 4, Netflix confirmed that Devil May Cry will return for a third season. The announcement came shortly after the release of season 2, which continued Dante’s conflict with his estranged twin brother Vergil.
Speaking about the renewal of the animated series, showrunner Adi Shankar explained that the structure of the series had been planned from the beginning (via Variety), “For those of you who have been paying attention to the episode names, I have been showing you the structure the entire time.”
“This was always Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’ with guns and a red coat. Season 1 was ‘Inferno.’ Season 2 was ‘Purgatorio.’ Season 3 will be ‘Paradiso.’ These three seasons make up ‘The Force Edge Saga.’ Since inception, ‘The Force Edge Saga’ was designed as a movie trilogy disguised as a television series”, he added.
Which cast members are returning for season 3?
Netflix has not announced the complete cast list for the final season, but the principal voice cast is expected to return, including Johnny Yong Bosch as Dante, Robbie Daymond as Vergil and Scout Taylor-Compton as Lady
Other notable cast members from the series who could return include Hoon Lee as White Rabbit, Chris Coppola as Enzo and the late Kevin Conroy as VP Baines.
What is the plot of Devil May Cry season 3?
Netflix has not released an official synopsis for season 3.
However, Adi Shankar’s comments suggest that the final season will serve as the “Paradiso” chapter of Dante’s story and conclude the overarching Force Edge Saga. Following the events of season 2 and Dante’s escalating conflict with Vergil, the final instalment is expected to bring resolution to the brothers’ journey and the ongoing battle between the human and demon worlds.
