Anger boiled over in Hasanpur village near here as residents, frustrated by prolonged electricity outages, staged a protest late on Thursday night. They blocked the Ferozepur–Ludhiana highway, bringing traffic to a standstill and raising slogans against the administration and the Power Department.
The blockade led to long queues of vehicles on both sides of the highway, leaving commuters stranded for hours. Passengers and daily travellers bore the brunt of the disruption, with many complaining of severe inconvenience.
Local residents, including Gurpreet Singh and Gursevak Singh, alleged that the area has been facing repeated and extended power cuts. “In this scorching heat, life has become unbearable without electricity. Despite repeated complaints, no permanent solution has been provided,” they said.
Villagers pointed out that the outages occur both during the day and night, disturbing work routines and robbing families of sleep. “Every night, power goes off three to four times. During the day, multiple cuts disrupt our work. We are exhausted,” a resident said.
The protesters also accused officials of negligence. They claimed that visits to Power Department offices yielded no results as officials keep sending them from one counter to another.
“Even when staff come to fix the supply, it’s only a temporary solution. When they leave, power trips again,” the villagers complained.
The demonstrators warned that if the situation did not improve soon, they will intensify their struggle. Police and administrative officials reached the spot and tried to pacify the residents, assuring them that the issue would be resolved at the earliest.
