Kota Kinabalu: A veteran PBS leader and former Sabah minister reminded elected representatives in the State to always have the people and their well-being at heart instead of always looking to seize power.
Datuk Seri Radin Malleh said such political manoeuvrings to seize power through the backdoor was already an obsolete and uncivilised way of gaining power.
He questioned the point of having elections if such actions continued and were allowed to go on.
He said money politics cannot be allowed to happen, whereas those who failed to win the election should respect the mandate of the people.
“Well, if you cannot get the required majority, then by convention, the party which has the biggest number of seats has the ‘right’ to form the government assisted by other parties to form a coalition government just like the Unity Government at the federal level now,” he said.
“On this score, we should appreciate the Prime Minister who was very patient for no less than 24 years,” said Radin.
He said as people’s representatives, they should be focusing and concentrating on serving the people and bringing development progress to the state which has been neglected for the past 50 or 60 years.
“Now that the Federal Government is not only listening but also respecting and honouring the formation of Malaysia via the MA63, it is time for Sabah to seize this opportunity and reclaim its rights and interests as enshrined in the MA63 as well as in the Federal Constitution.
